Algal blooms are one of the most destructive phenomenons impacting environments throughout the world, with nutrient buildup from pollution, urban and agricultural runoff, and changes in aquatic landscapes amidst warming climates, the prevalence of eutrophication and accumulation of harmful algae such as cyanobacteria are steadily killing aquatic wildlife and vegetation, and murking up once-clear waters. While efforts are continuously being made to restore these landscapes, there is also an opportunity to develop a new relationship with this widespread availability of a potential new bio-material.

Reimagining our relationship with algae, recognising both its beauty and its deadliness

Yes, algal blooms are driven by severe changes in environmental factors...

But what if impact from human activity and behaviour is compounding these changes, allowing harmful algae to thrive and dominate the ecosystem?
